Sony update gives PlayStation Vita GPS tracking and video capture, Mac support

The PlayStation Vita may not be available here in the U.S. yet, but it’s already receiving its major update.
Andriasang reports that the Sony portable gaming system will be updated to firmware version 1.60 on February 8, and receive several new, notable features in the process. Among the new features will be the ability to capture video using the system’s photo app, and a “Map” app that will allow users to identify their location using GPS and find walking or driving directions. The Map app will also provide satellite imagery.
Finally, in a long-awaited upgrade to Sony’s overall compatibility with Mac OS X systems, the new Vita update will happen at the same time as Sony releases a Mac-compatible version of its Content Management Assistant for PlayStation. The support app will make it possible for users to transfer data between their Vita and a Mac computer.
Along with all of these updates, the new Vita firmware will also make the switch from PlayStation Network to the rebranded Sony Entertainment Network.
